Long service leave for Victorians

Every Australian state has different rules for calculating long service leave balances. This means we need to build a slightly different balance calculator for each state, so the other states are in the pipeline and will be released real soon. Promise.

Most Australian employees are entitled to long service leave after a period of continuous service. The qualifying period can be between 7 and 10 years depending on the state you’re in.

For Victorians, we built a balance calculation engine that caters for all the different little rules that apply. It now follows the Long Service Leave Act 2018, which started on 1 November 2018. Most Victorian employees qualify after 7 years of continuous employment with one employer, and their leave accrues at one week for every 60 weeks of continuous service. That’s about 6 weeks of leave after 7 years.
